Blue Economy ehf. is an Icelandic innovation company that works systematically to improve decision-making in fisheries management with data-driven solutions. By utilizing advanced data processing and artificial intelligence, we develop tools that enable managers to increase efficiency, improve the utilization of fishing grounds and reduce risk. Our machine learning models are based on data from fishing, bottom temperature, environmental variables and other key factors that affect the distribution and availability of stocks.
The model results are practical for both fishing companies and governments, as they support more targeted quota setting, more flexible fishing strategies and increased productivity in the fisheries value chain. Our methods complement existing models such as SAM and GADGET, while also offering more flexible and real-time forecasts.
Scientific quality and professional trust are behind it: our scientific paper, CATCH, has recently been accepted for publication by Oxford University Press. The paper discusses a new approach to combining stock assessments and fishing process models, which provides a better overview of ecosystem variability and fishing patterns
